How to sync data from third-party fitness apps with Online Coach

The Online Coach app does not connect directly to third-party fitness services (e.g. Polar Flow, Samsung Health, Fitbit, Garmin Connect, Withings, Oura, etc.). Instead, your fitness app syncs its data to your phone's central health platform — Apple Health on iPhone or Health Connect on Android — and the Online Coach app then reads the data from there.

This means you need to set up two permissions:

  1. Your fitness app must be allowed to write data to Apple Health / Health Connect.

  2. The Online Coach app must be allowed to read data from Apple Health / Health Connect.

Steps for iPhone (Apple Health)

  1. Open your fitness app (e.g. Polar Flow, Fitbit, Garmin Connect) and enable syncing with Apple Health in its settings. The exact menu name varies by app — look for entries like "Apple Health", "Health integration" or "Connected apps".

  2. On your iPhone, open Settings > Apps > Health > Data Access & Devices, or open the Health app and go to Sharing > Apps and Services.

  3. Find your fitness app in the list and make sure the relevant data categories are enabled to write to Health.

  4. Open the Online Coach app and go to its settings or health permissions screen.

  5. Allow the Online Coach app to read data from Apple Health, and confirm that all listed categories are enabled.

Steps for Android (Health Connect)

  1. Open your fitness app (e.g. Samsung Health, Fitbit, Polar Flow) and enable syncing with Health Connect in its settings. On newer Android versions, Health Connect is built into the system; on older versions you may need to install it from the Play Store.

  2. Open the Health Connect settings on your Android device (either as a standalone app or via Settings > Security & privacy > More privacy settings > Health Connect).

  3. Under App permissions, enable your fitness app to share the relevant data types with Health Connect.

  4. In the same screen, grant the Online Coach app permission to read data from Health Connect.

  5. Open the Online Coach app and confirm that the permissions are active.

Supported data types

The Online Coach app reads the following data from Apple Health / Health Connect, regardless of which fitness app originally recorded it:

  • Steps

  • Activity / active calories

  • Sleep (total duration)

  • Deep sleep

  • REM sleep

  • Awake time

  • Light / core sleep

  • Weight

Whether a specific value is available depends on what your fitness app and device actually record and write to the health platform. For example, not all devices track REM sleep or deep sleep stages.

Troubleshooting

  • Make sure your fitness app is up to date and has recently synced with your phone (open the app and trigger a manual sync if needed).

  • Confirm that the fitness app is actually writing the desired data types to Apple Health / Health Connect — some apps only sync selected categories by default.

  • Check that permissions are granted on both sides: the fitness app must write to the health platform, and the Online Coach app must be allowed to read from it.

  • Restart your phone if data does not appear immediately after a sync.

  • On Android, make sure Health Connect itself is installed and up to date.
